Gaviscon Original Aniseed Relief is a reflux suppressant that forms a protective barrier over stomach contents. This helps prevent stomach acid from escaping into the food pipe, which can cause discomfort and pain. It is used for the treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux symptoms, such as:
- Acid regurgitation
- Heartburn
- Indigestion
These symptoms may occur after meals or during pregnancy.
Before Using Gaviscon Original Aniseed Relief
Do Not Take This Product If:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients. In rare cases, allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing or skin rashes may occur.
Special Precautions:
- This product contains 142.6 mg of sodium per 10 ml, which is 7.1% of the recommended maximum daily intake for an adult.
- The maximum daily dose contains 1140.8 mg of sodium, which is 57% of the daily intake limit. If you are on a low-sodium diet, consult your doctor before use.
- Contains methyl (E218) and propyl (E216) parahydroxybenzoates, which may cause allergic reactions.
- Contains 1.1 mg of benzyl alcohol per 10 ml, which may also cause allergic reactions.
If you have liver or kidney disease, consult your doctor before taking Gaviscon Original Aniseed Relief.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
- This product can be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, if you are concerned, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Taking Other Medicines
- Do not take Gaviscon Original Aniseed Relief within two hours of other medicines, as it may interfere with their absorption.
- This is particularly important if you are taking:
- Antihistamines
- Antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines, quinolones like norfloxacin)
- Iron supplements
- Antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole)
- Digoxin and beta blockers (for heart conditions)
- Penicillamine (for rheumatoid arthritis)
- Glucocorticoids (for inflammation and autoimmune disorders)
- Thyroid hormones
- Chloroquine (for malaria)
- Estramustine (for prostate cancer)
- Bisphosphonates (for osteoporosis)
How to Take Gaviscon Original Aniseed Relief
- Check that the cap seal is unbroken before first use.
- Shake well before use.
Dosage:
- Adults and children over 12 years: Take 10-20 ml (two to four 5 ml spoonfuls) after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.
- Children under 12 years: Only take under medical supervision.
What to Do If You Take Too Much
- You may feel bloated or experience abdominal discomfort.
- It is unlikely to cause harm, but consult a doctor or pharmacist if concerned.
What to Do If You Forget a Dose
- Simply continue taking the next dose as usual. Do not double the dose.

Possible Side Effects

How to Store Gaviscon Original Aniseed Relief
- Keep out of reach of children.

Gaviscon Original Ingredients

- 500 mg Sodium Alginate
- 267 mg Sodium Bicarbonate
- 160 mg Calcium Carbonate

- Carbomer
- Methyl (E218) and Propyl (E216) Parahydroxybenzoate
- Benzyl Alcohol
