Co-codamol Effervescent Tablets 8/500mg contain two active ingredients: paracetamol and codeine phosphate hemihydrate. This combination provides effective relief for acute moderate pain that is not alleviated by paracetamol, ibuprofen, or aspirin alone.

This medicine belongs to a group of opioid analgesics and is specifically formulated for short-term pain management. It is used to relieve muscular and rheumatic pain, headaches, migraines, neuralgia, toothache, period pains, and general aches and pains.

Important Information Before Taking Co-codamol Effervescent Tablets

This medicine contains codeine, which can cause addiction if taken continuously for more than three days. Stopping suddenly may lead to withdrawal symptoms. If used for headaches for more than three days, it may worsen the condition.

Do Not Take Co-codamol If You:

• Are allergic to paracetamol, codeine, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
• Have a dependency on alcohol.
• Suffer from breathing difficulties or chronic lung disease.
• Are having an asthma attack.
• Have bowel problems.
• Have had a head injury or raised intracranial pressure.
• Are under 12 years old.
• Are breastfeeding.
• Know you metabolize codeine into morphine very rapidly.

Warnings and Precautions

Before taking Co-codamol, consult your doctor if you:

• Have liver or kidney problems.
• Have a condition called myasthenia gravis, which weakens the muscles.
• Take any other medication containing paracetamol.
• Experience symptoms such as slow breathing, confusion, or sleepiness, which may indicate excessive morphine production in the body.

Use in Children and Adolescents

• Not recommended for children under 12 years due to the risk of severe breathing problems.
• Should not be used for pain relief in children under 18 after tonsil or adenoid removal due to Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome.

How to Take Co-codamol Effervescent Tablets 8/500mg

Always take this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

Dosage:

• Adults (18+ years): 1-2 tablets dissolved in water every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Do not take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours.
• Children (16-18 years): 1-2 tablets dissolved in water every 6 hours as needed. Maximum of 8 tablets in 24 hours.
• Children (12-15 years): 1 tablet dissolved in water every 6 hours as needed. Maximum of 4 tablets in 24 hours.
• Elderly: May require a lower dose.

Method of Administration

Dissolve the tablet(s) in at least half a glass of water. Stir well before drinking. Do not swallow the tablets whole.

If You Take More Than You Should

Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken more than the recommended dose, even if you feel well. Excessive intake of paracetamol can cause severe liver damage.

If You Forget to Take a Dose

Take your next dose as soon as you remember, but do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Co-codamol Effervescent Tablets may cause side effects. Stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you experience:

• Sudden wheezing or difficulty breathing.
• Swelling of the face, lips, or throat.
• Skin rashes or allergic reactions.
