Derbac M Liquid is a medicated emulsion containing 0.5% Malathion as its active ingredient. It is specifically formulated to treat infestations of head lice, pubic lice, and scabies in adults, the elderly, and children aged six months and older. Due to the absence of alcohol, it is particularly suitable for people with asthma or eczema.
Uses of Derbac M Liquid
Derbac M Liquid is designed for the following conditions:
- Head Lice: Effectively eliminates lice and their eggs.
- Pubic Lice (Crab Lice): Treats infestations in hairy areas like the pubic region.
- Scabies: Treats the skin condition caused by mites.
How to Use Derbac M Liquid
- For Head Lice:
- Apply the liquid to dry hair, ensuring the scalp is fully covered.
- Work the liquid through the hair from root to tip.
- Let the hair dry naturally in a well-ventilated room.
- After 12 hours (or the next day), wash the hair with shampoo and rinse.
- Use a nit comb on wet hair to remove dead lice and eggs.
- Repeat the treatment after 7 days.
- For Pubic (Crab) Lice:
- Apply Derbac M to the entire skin surface, focusing on hairy areas.
- Avoid applying it to the face, eyes, or scalp.
- Leave on for at least 1 hour or overnight before washing off.
- Repeat the treatment after 7 days.
- For Scabies:
- Apply to the entire body.
- For children under two years, apply to the scalp, face, and ears (avoid eyes and mouth).
- Do not wash or bathe for 24 hours.
- If hands or other areas are washed during this period, reapply the liquid to those areas.
- Repeat the treatment after 7 days.
Important Precautions
- Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or ears. If accidental contact occurs, rinse with plenty of water.
- Not suitable for children under 6 months unless directed by a doctor.
- Do not use on broken or infected skin.
- Avoid repeated or prolonged use—use no more than once a week for three consecutive weeks.
- If swallowed, seek immediate medical attention.
Possible Side Effects
Like all medicines, Derbac M Liquid may cause side effects. These include:
- Skin irritation and allergic reactions, such as difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, throat, or eyes.
- Chemical burns in rare cases.
